How to Adjust a Business Card for a Better Impact

Hello, my name is Deanna Murray and I am The Director of Marketing and Strategy at Build.Automate Inc in Washington DC.
Today we’re going to talk about how to adjust your business card to have better impact.

Your business card is second to only the first impression you give a possible client when you meet them. How you present your business and brand on this little 2×3 piece of paper is extremely important.

The best business cards give just enough information to a potential client to keep you top-of-mind and also gives insight into how they can contact you.

Every business card should have:
Company Name and/or logo, Company tagline, Office and Cell Phone, Email Address, Website Url and of course, your name.

With the popularity of double-sided business cards, it has become easier to add some service offerings and other information – but remember regardless of how much space you have, clutter is clutter. Utilizing every pixel within that 2×3 business card is distracting and a negative use of space.

When choosing a background for your business cards, only you know what best depicts your business but remember your message and contact information is what’s most important. The real pitch is what you do when you meet your contact – leading up to the exchange of cards.

One last note: The paper you choose to have your cards printed on, while seemingly unimportant is actually very important. A potential client is holding this card in their hands. They are going to notice if the paper stock is flimsy, inferior or cheap and will definitely notice if you printed them yourself and ink is smudged.

Card vendors are a dime a dozen online so the competition for your business is thick. Take advantage of that and don’t skimp on your cards. You might even find you like dye cuts or credit-card style cards or some other cool design. Skimp on other areas – not on your cards.
